SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Medical Affairs Department stands for integrity through unbiased, objective and balanced medical-scientific dialogues on a peer-to-peer level with the medical community in general and key thought leaders (physicians/scientists) in particular.

The Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia EMEA is responsible for the Medical Science activities in thefields of:

  • General Surgery

  • Hernia

At this point the Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia has 2 direct reports:

  • Senior Medical Science Advisor General Surgery EMEA

  • Senior Medical Science Advisor Hernia EMEA

The Medical Director is responsible for supporting MITG EMEA inestablishing highest medical-scientific credibility with our customers. He/she creates long-term strategic relationships with key thought leaders, major medical professional associations and academic centers of excellence. This will be achieved through continuousexchange of thoughts with health care professionals in the field ofGeneral Surgery And Hernia, the communication of medical-scientific evidence-based data and by establishing the medical-scientific substrate to convert our disruptive technologies and solutions into standards of care.

TheMedical Directorserves as an expert consultant to internal cross-functional partners by developing product/technology/solution related, evidence-based medical-scientific information materials and concepts. He/she is responsible for communicating relevant information gained from the medical community to key cross-functional partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. LEADER OF EMEA GENERAL SURGERY AND HERNIA MEDICAL TEAM

The Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia leads this team and is responsible for developing and implementing the vision, structure, strategy and plan of this team.

  1. EMEA MEDICAL-SCIENTIFIC STRATEGY FOR MARKET ACCESS AND MARKET DEVELOPMENT The Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia defines the MITG EMEA General Surgery and Hernia medical-scientific strategy for market access and development. He/she identifies barriers and opportunities and develops medical-scientific activity plans aimed at addressing these.

  2. EMEA THOUGHT LEADER STRATEGY AND PROGRAMMES

In very close collaboration with the EMEA MITG Medical Affairs team, the Global MITG Medical Affairs team and the EMEA MITG Commercial Organization, the Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia develops and executes the EMEA thought leaderGeneral Surgery and Hernia strategy and programmes.

The Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia serves as a liaison between MITG EMEA and thought leaders to build strategic medical-scientific relationships with them by:

  • Identifying thought leaders, major medical professional associations and centres of excellence in General Surgery and Hernia and interacting with them on a regular basis

  • Learning from them concerning existing and novel medical (diagnostic and therapeutic) concepts and developments

  • Relying on high medical-scientific competencies and strong interpersonal skills he/she effectively educates thought leaders on relevant medical-scientific/clinical evidence of MITG’s General Surgery and Hernia products/procedures/solutions

  • Engaging with thought leaders in scientific forums in relevant research and disease areas (i.e.: symposia, study groups, think tanks, advisory boards, research conferences, etc.)

  • Identifying and profiling potential pre-clinical and clinical trials investigators

  1. EMEA MEDICAL-Scientific COMMUNICATION AND HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND EDUCATION STRATEGY AND PROGRAMMES

In very close collaboration with the EMEA MITG Medical Affairs team, the Global MITG Medical Affairs team and the EMEA MITG Commercial Organization, the Medical Director General Surgery And Herniadevelops the EMEAGeneral Surgery and Herniamedical-scientific communication and HCP training and education strategy and programmes and ensures its implementation ona country level through the countries/region Marketing organizations.

The Medical DirectorGeneral Surgery And Hernia:

  • Serves as peer-to-peer information source for physicians, researchers and other health care professionals through the dissemination of medical-scientific/clinical evidence

  • Develops highest medical-scientific quality health care professional training and education programmes related to the safe and effective use of MITG’sGeneral Surgery and Herniaproducts. This includes training curricula and modules for physicians, nurses and operating room teams and provides those plans for implementation on a country level to the respective Commercial organization

  • Responds to unsolicited off-label questions as appropriate

  1. EMEA Clinical Development Strategy and ProgramMeS

The Medical DirectorGeneral Surgery And Hernia:

  • Collaborates with the MITG EMEA and the MITG Global Medical Affairs Teams as well as the Clinical Affairs Director MITG EMEA in the development of the EMEA clinical research strategy.

  • May assist with design and development of pre-clinical and clinical research protocols to increase the body of scientific evidence for General Surgery and Hernia products.

  • Collaborates with the MITG EMEA and the MITG Global Medical Affairs Teams as well as the Clinical Affairs Director EMEA on the review of EMEAGeneral Surgery and Hernia ERPs(External Research Projects)

  1. Internal Support and Training The Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia serves as a medical-scientific/clinical expert resource on MITG’s General Surgery and Hernia products/procedures/solutions for:
  • The EMEA Field Sales Force by providing regular updates concerning key medical developments in the field of General Surgery and Hernia.

  • Other internal stakeholders including: Clinical Affairs, Health Economics, Policy and Reimbursement, Marketing and Marketing Communications, Research and Technology Development, Product Development, Regulatory Affairs, Governmental Affairs, Sales Management and Sales Training, Business Development and Licensing, Integrated Hospital Solutions and others.

  1. ContinuOS Education and Training of Medical Director The Medical DirectorGeneral Surgery And Hernia:
  • Continuously reviews the current medical-scientific literature

  • Attends key medical-scientific conventions to stay abreast with the latest medical scientific data related to General Surgery and Hernia and competitor products; as well as related disease areas

  • Participates in corporate training programs and academic preceptorships while focusing on a customized professional development plan

  1. Regulations, policies and procedures The Medical Director General Surgery And Hernia ensures that all Medical Affairs applicable regulations, policies, and procedures are adhered to.

Qualifications and Competencies

Functional Competences

  • Medical/scientific background (MD, PharmD or PhD) with ideally 7 – 10 years of experience in the Pharmaceutical or Medical Device Industry

  • Marketing and/or Sales experience is of advantage

  • Proven understanding of the medical device and/or pharmaceutical arena and of EMEA healthcare systems’ specifics

  • Proven capability to develop and execute strategic action plans to address key opportunities and barriers for specific disease areas

  • Analytical skills and capability to understand, interpret, and communicate complex scientific information (‘ cut through complexity and communicate simple and clear’ )

  • Insight to determine sales and customer communication/education needs during product life cycle
